Reaching out to people begins with the act of listening. When you ask about someone else’s point of view first and then listen and truly seek to understand that point of view, you show that person that you care about what they think. Many times, as you discuss their ideas and beliefs on a topic there will arise opportunities to share your own thoughts with them.
Oftentimes you will not change the person’s mind then in there, but you will plant a seed. Most people do not like having their ideas challenged; pressing them might make them too defensive to consider what you have to say. Instead, take a step back, listen to them, offer a Biblical perspective when the opportunity arises, and then let them think about it for some time. What you said to them might have an affect on their hearts later as they think about the topic on their own.
