When talking with someone who does not share your beliefs, looking for total agreement will only result in total frustration. Instead, look for something related to the topic that you can both agree on. This common ground tactic helps keep the conversation respectful even while discussing differing beliefs.
Remember, it is not your job to convince the person that you are right. You are a light and witness for Christ, not a battering ram of Truth. People will be more willing to lower their walls and consider what you have said (and perhaps even come back to talk more about the topic) if you leave the conversation on a good note by finding that common ground.
